Avidor in the academy

As a leader in the Israeli orthopedic footwear industry, the Avidor chain has made it its goal to promote the field and lead the professionalization process that is currently taking place. In order to fulfill this goal, Avidor has joined forces with the Si'im Campus at Tel Aviv University, which specializes in the field of sports and movement training.  

Within the framework of the cooperation with Si'im Campus, Avidor's specialists teach two professional courses. The larger and more important course among these is the medical footwear course. In addition, Avidor's specialists teach an orthopedic footwear course which works as complementary training for the medical pedicure specialists.  

Medical footwear course  

The medical footwear course is the first of its kind in Israel, designed for anyone whose line of work involves orthopedics, orthotics or medical footwear, as well as anyone who does foot-related work. The course is taught mainly by Prof. Niska Meir, an ankle and foot specialist and the head of the orthopedic department at the Meir hospital in Kfar Saba and Dr. Elisha Froynd, an orthopedist who specializes in the foot.   

Many other specialists help teach this course. Among them are: Dr. Moshe Ayalon, Dr. Moshe Kulikovsky, Mr. Sabri Massarwa, Dr. Eliyau London, Dr. Yiftach Hetzroni, Dr. Israel Dudkevich, Mr. Avi Levavi, Dr. Eyal Melamed, Dr. Kobbi Shif, Dr. Ronen Krep, Mrs. Yael Steinfeld, Mr. Liran Lifshitz, Mrs. Irit Smilanski, Dr. Omer Meydan, Dr. Ofer Elishuv, Dr. Ram Avrahami, Dr. Guy Ma'oz, Dr. Danny Veigel, Dr. Gideon Mann, Dr. Yitzhak Zioner, Dr. Dan Tzin, Prof. Mike Heim, Dr. Michael Vershavsky and other key people in the medicine and orthopedics field.    

The medical footwear course has three main objectives: to instill the field's professionals with the basic knowledge required for the construction of orthotics, to expose the issues of foot pathologies and biomechanics to the students and teach them how to gather data for prescribed accessories. The duration of the course is approximately 200 hours. Of these, 100 hours are theoretical and 100 hours are practical workshops that Mr. Avi Avidor, the founder of the Avidor chain, takes part in.

It should be noted that the launch of this course preceded the 2007 state comptroller's report in which the health ministry and the health maintenance organizations were advised to cooperate exclusively with orthopedic institutes that underwent professional training. The course's first cycle opened in July 2007, and several additional cycles have graduated since then.

The course graduates are given a diploma that authorizes them to read and comprehend doctors' prescriptions, gather data for orthopedic accessories and execute measuring for insoles manufacturing and construction. 

Orthopedic footwear course for medical pedicure specialists

Today, Avidor and Si'im campus are launching a medical footwear course designated for medical pedicure specialists who finished a diabetic foot treatment internship at Wolfson hospital. During this course, the students acquire basic knowledge of the foot directing field, learn to read doctors' prescriptions and execute measuring for insoles fitting. The course duration is approximately 50 hours. At the end of the course, the graduates are granted a diploma that authorizes them to gather data and do measurements for fitting orthotics. This diploma also qualifies the graduates to work at orthopedic institutes.
